The successful habits of a bariatric surgery patient
  • Record intake in a food journal or a mobile app for food tracking
  • Eat routinely, making sure to not skip any meals
  • Keep lean protein a priority including it at every meal and snack
  • Track protein intake daily, ensuring consumption of 60-65 grams daily
  • Reduce portion sizes by 25%
  • Use the hunger scale to avoid overeating and becoming uncomfortable at each meal
  • Avoid eating out and limit to twice weekly
  • Eat a well-balanced diet, incorporating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
  • Limit desserts/candy/high fat and processed foods
  • Reduce/eliminate consumption of caffeinated and carbonated beverages
  • Drink 64 oz of water or calorie free beverages every day
  • SIP beverages- avoid gulping or “chugging”
  • Do NOT drink LIQUIDS 30 MINUTES BEFORE, DURING or 30 MINUTES AFTER MEALS-
  • Thoroughly chew foods to a liquid consistency
  • Set utensils down in between each bite to slow down eating
  • Routinely take a multivitamin with iron every day
  • Drink alcohol moderately- limiting to less than 4 drinks a week
  • Keep up an exercise regimen and track physical activity
  • Manage stress effectively through constructive outlets
